The Department is headed by Prof. B.L.Kaul, Ph.D (power System) from IIT Delhi, Formerly Principal, Govt. College of Engineering & Technology, REC Srinagar. He is assisted by Prof. S. M. Khan, formerly, Professor REC Srinagar. Department has well qualified, devoted and experienced faculty in the field of power systems, Electrical Machines, Electric drives, Power Electronics, Control Systems, Electrical Instrumentation and Bio-Instrumentation. The department consists of well – developed laboratories such as MATLAB, Electrical Engineering Lab, Electrical Machines Lab, Power Systems Lab, Electrical Measurement Lab, Network Lab, and Power Electronics Lab.

The department has a good infrastructure in terms of well-qualified faculty and well-developed laboratories. The syllabi for the courses taught to the students have been updated recently.
Apart from basic courses in Electrical Engineering like Basic Electrical Engineering, Electrical Machines, Power System, Control Systems and Network Analysis, the students are taught courses on Power Electronics, Microprocessors, Artificial, Neural Networks, High Voltage Engineering, Biomedical Electronics, and Telemetry etc.
The department has nine well-equipped laboratories including 300 sqm Electrical Machines Lab. During their course work the students work in the following major laboratories.
